Home Away From Home

Do you remember last summer when I was looking for a room to rent from Toronto for the Autumn? I do. It felt like a hard task since the real estate market is booming: everybody want’s to move to Toronto. But thanks to good luck angels I found a room before I it was time to move.

The home I found from Toronto was welcoming from the start, filled with good energy. My roommate became Canadian sister for me showing where to get the best deals on fresh fruits.

In these two drawings I tried to capture the spirit of my Toronto home. These are also home assignments for the Drawing for 3D animation class. The aim was to study light and reflections. I used different paper but same col-erase pencil in both of them. The first drawing is from the backyard. I always imagined two poets sitting on these chairs gossiping about the essence of life. And in the 2nd one you can see our home mascot: Tito and his eyes full of love.

Halloween Art

It’s the Halloween holidays. This is actually first time I’m officially celebrating Halloween since in Finland we don’t really have it. Some of the yard decorations in Toronto are just amazing: ghosts, zombies, skeletons, spiders… you name it. Tomorrow I get to help my roommate to hand out candies to kids.

I wanted to celebrate the occasion by making an Halloween themed illustration. What do you think of my little Vampire. So innocent and cute. Just enjoying the flowers… Didn’t see that coming did you?

Classmate Sketching

Sometimes I get shy when sketching people in public. People often sense that someone is looking at them. If they catch me staring at them I get embarrassed. Some people smile and that smile I love. That means they give their approval. They are ok that I’m inspired by their appearance. But if they seem annoyed I stop drawing them of course. And change the subject.

We decided to make things easier for ourselves for the school assignment : Draw five 10-20 minute long sketches of people. We got together with my classmates and drew each other. Meet Mikhaela, Lazo, Chang and Tricia plus two students from the Story Arts Center that I do not know.

Our teacher liked the “lyrical lines” in my drawings. What a beautiful thing to say.

5 Things To Love About Toronto

I’ve been planning and filming material for this video since I arrived to Toronto. The video was first called 5 things about Toronto but as I noticed my tone talking about these five things it’s clear that it’s a matter of love. I will do another video later about my animation studies here in Toronto. So stay tuned for that.

Blind Contour Self Portrait

This was one of the exercise we’ve done for Beverley Ransom‘s wonderful Drawing for 3D Modelling and Animation -course. Blind Contour is a drawing technique where you draw the contour of an subject – in this case my own face – while you’re not allowed to look at the paper. You can look at your drawing only when repositioning the pen. I absolutely love this technique. It’s so much fun. And the self portrait turned out freaking awesome.

French French Fries Town

This is a my concept design sketch of a French French Fries Town in perspective for Matthew Lyon’s character design course. Idea and drawing by me. It’s drawn with blue Col Erase pencil. I think this would look cool coloured, don’t you think?
