Taitteessa

I mentioned this project briefly before but now it’s happening. Taitteessa is an short vlog style documentation of Media studies in Turku Arts Academy in Turku University of Applied Sciences. Us four students – Kia, Emilia, Venla and I – filmed our study life during January 2017. Emilia and Venla study Advertisement, Kia studies Journalism and I study Animation. The Taitteessa workgroup edited the material into four times four short episodes. Two first episodes from each of us have already come out. The next episode featuring me will come out on Wednesday on the Turun AMK:n Taideakatemia facebook page. And on Friday on the TurunAMK YouTube page. Below is the trailer. Episodes 1 and 2 you can find by clicking one or two. Enjoy also the selection of my crazy facial expressions in these video thumbnails.

Look For The Winter Light

Winter in Finland can feel like lifetime in Mordor. There is days when I feel like I’m living in the never ending night surrounded only by darkness. But as you know: light looks the brightest next to a shadow. So when the missed sun rises above the horizon there couldn’t be prettier place to be. Also loved ones, winter treats and drawing are my go to when I’m in need for some extra light. Now there is already promise of Spring in the air and another winter bites the dust. Bye winter. In your darkness you shine.01_winter_photograph_elli-maanpaa02_winter-photograph_elli-maanpaa

10 Tips On Applying To Art University

Since it’s that time of the year that everybody is figuring out what they gonna do when they grow up so I thought I could share some tips on how to get into the Art University of your dreams. It’s in Finnish since I have only applied and been accepted to Universities in Finland so that’s all I know. But I added English subtitles so just click on the CC button to understand what I’m raving about. I’m not claiming to be an expert but as an three-times-applicant I’ve seen some things and wanna share the wisdom. See my ten tips below.

I guess my biggest point is that the school alone cannot give you a career. Only you self can make it happen. So don’t stress about getting into the right school too much.

Thank you for tuning in and have a good one. See you next time with more art.

P.S. The awesome archive material I used on the video is from Archive.org

Draw Something Every Day

I have a strong work ethic on everything I love to do: art, design, animation. There is the constant need for improvement. I’ve been drawing daily for maybe three years now. Of course I’ve always drawn a lot but about three years ago I started the 365-drawings-a-year challenge. After the year ended I chose to keep on drawing daily but not beat myself up if I miss a day or only doodle something super fast. There is a balance I try to seek. Balance of persistent training and keeping zen.

For the Christmas Holiday I came up with a new challenge for myself. I had this old sketchbook that I decided to fill during the two week holidays. My aim was to draw a lot of landscapes since I want to be better at drawing the backgrounds. In the end it took little longer but I managed to fill this sketchbook in 24 days. If you wanna see how it turned out take a look below.

Perfect Day

I’m planning to do a post about 2016 favourites. But before that I just want to share with you what a perfect day the 1st of January 2017 was. Great start for a new year.

It all started with a perfect winter weather. Sun was shining and Turku looked beautiful. We took a long walk with my loved one and I photographed the city scenery with my phone. Then at home I drew the photos to my sketchbook with the brushmarkers Santa gave me for Christmas. What a perfect day.
