I'm excited to present my new painting series, "Muñeca," at the Ornamo Teosmyynti 2025. This event takes place from January 6 to February 22, 2025, at the newly renovated Finlandia Hall in Helsinki, Finland, and online.
"Muñeca" is a collection of 10 paintings that explore the longing for innocence. In Spanish, "muñeca" means doll and is also a slang term for something lovely. These dolls are as cute as kittens, as clever as a chessboard, and as tough as Finnish "sisu."
Each painting is unique, yet they can be displayed together as a cohesive set. I've painted them on plates made of bamboo leaves. The shape of the plates reminds me of bubble gum pillows, which ties in perfectly with the playful figures I've painted. This choice of surface also adds a three-dimensional texture, setting them apart from traditional materials like canvas or paper.

A Harmonious Palette of Playful Colors
The series includes five paintings in red and pink tones, and five in blue. The blue pieces celebrate the reopening of Finlandia Hall, reflecting the colors of the Finnish flag. Despite the different color bases, all paintings share a unified palette: the blue-based dolls have rosy red cheeks, and the red-pink-based dolls feature blue in their hair and details. This harmony makes them suitable for individual purchase or as a complete set for larger spaces.
I drew inspiration from various sources, including the Moulin Rouge musical, which influenced the ideas and style of these paintings. They evoke the charm of forgotten fairytale illustrations, ready to convey whatever story the viewer or collector wishes to express.
