Learning Digital Painting – Huevember

Do you know those people who do everything with mouse – even graphic design and illustration? Or even worse: the people who use only the trackpad of their laptop? Well. I was one of those people. I’ve been doing all my computer graphics using the trackpad of my macbook for the last 10 years.

Now I encountered the chance of a lifetime to tackle this beast. Our school – Centennial College – let’s their students rent small Wacom Intuos drawing tablets for free. So as it is the teacher strike going and our classes cancelled – I’ve thrown myself into learning how to do paint digitally with the tablet. I’ve looked for tutorials online and this one by Loish herself is one of my favourites. November is time of Huevember so that served as a perfect starting point for my progress. I’m loosely using movies as references. Can you tell which ones?

These eight illustrations took about 46 hours to make. I’m planning in the future use digital painting as the sketch before big size acrylic paintings. So I can play with the composition and the colours. I’m also excited to make stand alone illustrations completely digitally – like these ones.
