Elonaali

Let’s continue with the Uhanalaiset / Endangered painting progress stories. For now on I’ll keep it mostly visual. This one is called Elonaali (in the picture below in right) and it was inspired by famous Finnish oat meal brand Elovena (the package in left). The original Elovena girl illustration was made by Joel Viktor Räsänen in 1925. In the year 2007 Finnish modern artist Jani Leinonen created a controversial series named Falling Elovena using Elovena brand (in the middle). My work Elonaali bows as a peace gesture to both “brands”: to Elovena girl which is a visual character every Finn recognizes and to Jani Leinonen who does unapologetic art works that makes your brain twist. This painting’s endangered animal is Arctic fox which is in Finnish naali which explains the painting’s name: Elonaali.

And now I’ll go back to work. Couple more paintings to do before the exhibition opening on the Friday the 31st of July in Korkeasaari Karhulinna. I’m totally working it. Cheers, ElliUhanalaiset_painting_elli-maanpaa_2015_elonaali
